Undecylenic Aldehyde (Aldehyde C-11 Undecylenic)

Manufactured by Nova Industries

Nova Industries manufactures Undecylenic Aldehyde (10-Undecenal), a powerful unsaturated aldehyde derived from the C-11 Castor Oil chain.

Known in the perfumery world simply as “Aldehyde C-11 Undecylenic,” this high-impact aroma chemical is prized for its diffusive power and ability to impart lift and freshness to floral bouquets. Unlike its saturated counterpart (Undecanal), the double bond in this molecule adds a unique diffusive “sparkle,” making it a staple in modern perfumery.

1. Production & Chemistry

Undecylenic Aldehyde is a derivative of Undecylenic Acid, ensuring a renewable vegetable origin.

  • Synthesis: It is produced through the selective reduction of Undecylenic Acid (or its methyl ester). The carboxylic acid group is chemically reduced to the aldehyde group while preserving the terminal double bond.
  • Chemical Structure: A linear chain of 11 carbons with a double bond at the 10th position and an aldehyde group at the 1st position ($CH_2=CH(CH_2)_8CHO$).

2. Olfactory Profile & Applications

This is a “High-Impact” material, meaning it is used in relatively small dosages to achieve significant effects.

Perfumery (Fine Fragrance)

  • Odor Profile: Powerful, Waxy, Rose-like, with Citrus and Metallic undertones. It is often described as having the fresh, “soapy” scent of clean linen.
  • Floral Booster: It is essential for reconstructing realistic Rose, Tuberose, and Lily accords. It gives the “petal wax” effect that makes synthetic flowers smell natural.
  • Top Note Lift: Adds diffusion and radiance to citrus colognes and aldehyde-type perfumes (classic “Chanel No. 5” style).

Functional Fragrance

  • Soaps & Detergents: Due to its chemical stability and powerful masking ability, it is widely used in laundry detergents, fabric softeners, and bar soaps to cover fatty base odors and provide a lasting “clean” scent.

3. Technical Specifications (TDS)

Nova Industries supplies a perfumery-grade product with strict odor control.
