1. Lubricants & Greases (Tribology)
The lubricant industry is the largest consumer of refined castor derivatives. Nova Industries manufactures the essential thickeners and esters required for high-performance greases.
- Lithium Hydroxystearate Greases:Our 12-Hydroxy Stearic Acid (12-HSA) is the primary thickener used in manufacturing Lithium-based greases. The hydroxyl group facilitates strong hydrogen bonding, creating a stable fiber matrix that holds the oil.2 These greases offer superior shear stability and high dropping points (approx. 180°C).
- Aviation & Jet Engine Lubricants:We supply Sebacic Acid and Castor Esters used to synthesize Dipentaerythritol esters. These synthetic lubricants maintain viscosity and prevent coking at the extreme temperatures found in jet turbines.
- Biodegradable Hydraulic Fluids:Nova Industries’ First Special Grade (FSG) and modified esters are used in hydraulic systems for forestry and marine equipment, where environmental safety (biodegradability) is mandatory.
2. Coatings, Paints & Inks (CASE)

- Alkyd Resins & Varnishes:Dehydrated Castor Oil (DCO) is a “drying oil” manufactured by Nova Industries.3 It contains conjugated double bonds that polymerize rapidly by oxidation, providing toughness and non-yellowing finishes in white epoxy coatings and varnishes.
- Polyurethane Coatings:Our Castor Polyols act as the resin backbone for 2-Component (2K) PU floor coatings. Their hydrophobicity prevents moisture-curing defects (bubbling) in humid environments.
- Pigment Dispersion:Ricinoleic Acid and Blown Castor Oil are excellent wetting agents, used to disperse pigments in offset printing inks and high-solids industrial paints.4
3. Plastics & Polymer Engineering
Nova Industries manufactures the monomeric building blocks for “Green Polymers.”
- Bio-Nylons (Polyamides):We export high-purity Sebacic Acid (for Nylon 6-10, 10-10) and 11-Aminoundecanoic Acid precursors (for Nylon 11). These polymers exhibit lower moisture absorption and higher chemical resistance than standard Nylon 6.
- Plasticizers:Acetyl Tributyl Citrate (ATBC) and castor-based esters are non-phthalate, non-toxic plasticizers used to make PVC flexible for food packaging and medical tubing.5
4. Cosmetics, Fragrances & Personal Care

- Skin Care & Lipsticks:Hydrogenated Castor Oil (Castor Wax) acts as a structure-builder in lipsticks and balms, preventing melting.6 USP Grade Castor Oil is a primary occlusive agent in lotions.
- Deodorants:Zinc Ricinoleate functions as an odor absorber.7 It chemically traps odor molecules (mercaptans) rather than masking them.8
- Fragrance Intermediates:Heptaldehyde (a C-7 derivative) is a precursor for Alpha-Amyl Cinnamaldehyde (Jasmine notes) and other aromatic compounds used in perfumery.
- Surfactants:Ethoxylated Castor Oil (PEG-40 Hydrogenated) is the industry standard solubilizer, allowing essential oils and fragrances to mix into water-based toners and perfumes.
5. Pharmaceuticals & Medicinal Science
While historically known as a purgative, modern pharmaceutical applications of Nova Industries’ products are far more sophisticated.
- Antifungal Agents:Undecylenic Acid and Zinc Undecylenate are potent antifungals used in topical creams to treat Tinea pedis (Athlete’s Foot) and skin infections.9
- Drug Delivery Vehicles:Cremophor-type Ethoxylates are used to emulsify hydrophobic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) (e.g., Paclitaxel for cancer treatment), making them injectable.10

- Textile Auxiliaries:Sulfated Castor Oil (Turkey Red Oil) is used as a dyeing assistant for cotton and rayon, ensuring bright and even color penetration.11
- Leather Fatliquoring:Sulfonated oils are emulsified into leather during tanning to lubricate the fibers, ensuring the leather remains soft and flexible after drying.12
